This is true. Although I think bolstering their “vote for us for the good things we’ve done” campaign will be more effective with a little bit of fear of consequences. Meaning, the “vote against them for what they would do if they won” approach. Democrats are targeting the undecided or independent vote in a highly polarized society. Some people are more easily led by their fear, others by reason. See: last fall’s California gubernatorial recall election. Democrat Gavin Newsome, with a budget surplus and firm handling of the COVID pandemic, would have been recalled if all he talked about was what he’d done. He was not recalled because his opponent would have been SO much worse, and that got out the vote.
