This is fucking brilliant. Thank you!

My parents immigrated to Canada from Poland. They brought with them many photos, including photos of Auschwitz (Oswiecim in Polish). My mother first explained the photos (mostly of gas chambers) to me when I was, perhaps, five or six. On my brother's first visit to Poland at age 14 or so, he also visited Auschwitz and took photos of his own. I've visited the Holocaust museum in Los Angeles and spoken with the one of the last survivors. We are not Jewish, but my parents both witnessed the horror and they did not shrink from telling us about it and making sure we knew what evil is. Children should be protected from falls and burns, never truth. Children around the world today and throughout history have suffered unspeakable horrors. Our children, here, safe, in a free country, should know what can happen, if only to prevent history from repeating itself here.
