I’m the gorgeous one on the right

It’s been a minute since you last heard from me.

My human Bea wasn’t writing stories and neither was I. Even when I still could. I had three or four stories sitting around in Drafts but just didn’t feel like finishing them. I even talked my sister Zena into filling in for me — not easy because she hates writing — but she never got around to it either.

Then the Really Serious Stuff happened and now I’m here on the other side.

In case you’re wondering, when you say your last goodbye, we really do cross a bridge that looks like a rainbow. We float across like leaves carried along by a gentle brook, and then we land in the most delightful meadow. It’s full of tennis balls for the labs and the plushest dog beds for the rest of us. And there’s all the bacon we can eat or peanut butter for the vegans. What? Of course we have vegans here. Our values are as diverse as our species and breeds. We respect each other whether we agree or not.

We’re greeted by old friends when we arrive. Red and Beggs, my Beagle sisters. Beggs is a lot more chill than I remember. Maybe Red’s been mentoring her. And, of course, Auggie, who was my best friend on Earth. He’s pretty new…
