Tales from the Dog Bed is a series by Jessie A., an 8-pound big-eared big-hearted terrier mix. Jessie loves to talk about her lives. Not just her life today, in Santa Monica, but also her past lives, which she remembers as though they were yesterday. Jessie has been everywhere and done everything — and she wants you to know it.

Bea, Jessie’s she-human (AKA, The Housekeeper)

Hi. It’s me, Jessie A.

It’s been a few weeks since you saw a Tale From the Dog Bed. I haven’t been in the mood. I’m not as young as I used to be, and typing up stories on Bea’s 11-inch MacBook Air isn’t easy on my joints. It was easier when I could draft and edit on her Aye Phone, but Medium stopped letting us do that. That’s humans for you. Just when you get used to something, they pull it away like a rope tug-o-war toy. Anyway, when my Frenchie friend Jacques, whose human is a vet and Knows About Things, suggested I take a few weeks off to rest, I did. That’s why you haven’t heard from me.

It helps that Bea knows when I don’t feel 100 percent and makes a point of not letting me jump up or down from furniture or walk too far. She carries me pretty much everywhere I need to go…
