Fair skies and calm seas — is this what “normal” is again?

Chapter One — The First Four Days

If you’re a certain age, you’ll remember being held hostage by friends who’d just come back from a trip. They’d project thousands of slides on their living room wall and narrate every freakin’ minute of their holiday. B-O-R-I-N-G.

When social media happened, people started posting travel pictures online. YAWN.

Then, for two years, nobody went anywhere. So nobody’s been sharing vacation photos. Do we miss them yet? I guess we’re going to find out.

Celebration — c’mon!

On April 1, we set sail from the Port of Miami on Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world when we booked the trip. It isn’t anymore; Royal Caribbean just launched a bigger one, Wonder of the Seas, a few weeks ago. But ours was plenty big.

This trip was for all the milestones we’ve been collecting. My 60th birthday. His 70th. Good health. My long-delayed Bachelor’s degree.
