Please Vote — Even in Local or Primary Elections
Especially in local or primary elections — they matter as much if not more than the “big” ones
I used to think primary and mid-term elections didn’t matter much. Either we were living in different times, I was naive, or both. These days, public discourse has devolved completely. It’s the blame game. The despise the other party game. The block them even if they are doing good for people game. The no-compromise game. The lie through your teeth game. You get the idea.
I’m not under any illusions political candidates fight a fair fight. They’ve always sought an advantage, usually at the expense of the other guy. But I don’t remember it being this cutthroat. The last veneer of civility has been smashed to splinters. Today, people’s most grotesque and self-serving instincts are on full display, they all have megaphones, and most are screaming their messages directly in our faces through social media or cable news.
The only way to make the fight more fair is for each of us to make our voice heard. In every single race. It’s math. The law of large numbers states that as a sample size grows, the probability of an expected outcome increases. In other words, if only 100 people vote in a local election…
