4. Eat meals instead of grazing mindlessly all day.

My health commitment for March started out relevant as the world was still normal(ish) in my city — and then its advice quickly became quaint / cringeworthy / tone deaf / moot. As we’ve hunkered down in our homes and no one is sharing meals with anyone beyond their four walls, much has been put on indefinite hold. Who knows when or if normalcy will return, or what form it will take when it does?

The suspended animation in which most of us are now living affects us all differently. It’s a mild inconvenience for people of privilege but starkly devastating for those fighting on the front lines. It’s a tragedy for those whose loved ones are fighting for or have lost their lives. The outcome is grim for people who were fighting for basic survival before all this happened, and whose chances of winning that fight are now an even more impossible longshot.

In this new battlefield, many behind the bulwarks of home are baking quarantine bread. In the blink of an eye, carbs stopped being our biggest enemy and comfort food of all types became a welcome guest in our homes. We’re now baking and breaking bread — and pie and cake and biscuits and monkey…
