Maybe this is a Canadian talking but ballads were also a popular genre in the 70s. Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, Vicki Lawrence’s only (that I’m aware of) hit The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, Jim Croce Cats in the Cradle, Charlie Daniels’ Devil Went Down To Georgia. And goofy stuff that captured the fads of the moment like Convoy and the CB radio craze. Definitely punk, the Police before Sting went solo.
