I've thought about it a lot, and as a recovered cult member myself, I've seen people--especially women--do so many things that are against their own best interests once they are caught up in the movement. And before that, I grew up in evangelical Christianity. Women in groups like that are indoctrinated to believe that men are acting in their best interests even when they very clearly are not.
