Back in the days when people jumped on a plane for work things, I found myself on an early morning nonstop aimed into the bullseye of the right coast. Jacksonville, Florida for a conference.

As a yarn-dyed introvert whose favorite conversation with strangers on a plane is none, I was delighted with my exit-row seat by the window and looked forward to zoning out unmolested by friendly chatter.

Yeah, I’m that person.

Talk to me never

I rate hairstylists by their chairside terseness. A stylist who stops at “hello,” and then gets to work snipping and clipping without another word is perfection in my books. I’ll close my eyes and dream of a beach on Maui or a whale-watching tour in Alaska until they pull the cape off me and lower the chair so I can hop off.

You’ll never see me at an after-work happy hour. I’d rather spend that hour getting a root canal, but since those also cause physical discomfort and drooling, you can have your brew at the sports bar with people you like or at least don’t entirely loathe. I’ll…
