I was born in Canada, but I've lived here in the U.S. most of my life. In 2008, after becoming an American citizen, I was proud to vote for Barack Obama, the candidate of hope. Then I voted for his reelection, and then for Hillary, because her plans made sense. The night TFG* was elected, I wondered what had happened to my adopted country, but continued to hope I'd been wrong about him. Four years proved him to be exactly what he appeared to be, and my husband and I started thinking about leaving this country if he were re-elected. In November 2020, when so many people voted for him again, and all these months later when he's somehow still relevant despite crimes committed in plain sight against humanity and the Constitution, I am losing hope for this country. Canada is far from perfect with a similar history of violence against its indigenous peoples, but at the very least they acknowledge that stain publicly instead of pretending it doesn't exist. If this country doesn't come to its senses, we will leave.
TFG=The Former Guy or That F&@$ing Guy.
