I, too, would be fascinated by the psychology and sociology of the matter. As one of the the most repulsive human beings I have ever seen, and I don't mean the package but the contents, every day I wonder how he ever managed to capture millions of votes and thousands if not millions of believers of his lies. The only answers I can come up with are, as you said, he's very good at lying. I've heard he can be charismatic, although I don't see it. He says the quiet hateful things out loud and has granted permission to a whole generation of voters to do the same. He has no scruples, which perhaps to some is admirable. And he's the most useful of idiots to actors foreign and domestic who mean to destabilize or destroy America.
