Think Twice Before Eating These Five Foods

I’ve eaten food for sixty years, been on countless diets, survived three eating disorders, read thousands of nutrition labels, and — finally — made peace with food. With all that under my belt (sorry), I am sharing a few things I’ve learned about the food behind the labels.
Foods aren’t “bad;” no food is inherently bad or good. Food is fuel for the carbon-oxygen machine we carry around for 80 or 90 years, if we’re lucky. The foods listed here, though, are not what they appear to be. They have been added or subtracted to unnecessarily, often in pursuit of profit. Always futzing, we humans have a knack for breaking even simple, hardy things, like natural foods. Or we lie, to shoehorn a food into the latest fad or diet du jour. So, be aware of what’s in some of those foods “they” say we should eat.
1. I scream for “high fiber” or “low carb”
